My computer is overheating and/or ventilating too loudly Do you notice that your computer is overheating, or that it is ventilating abnormally? Follow the tips below to solve your problem.
Overheating of the computer
Noisy ventilator
Overheating
There are several causes that can cause your computer to get overheated.
- First, make sure the computer is on a flat, solid surface.
- Also make sure that nothing is blocking the computer's vents and that they are not filled with dust. If this is the case, you can use a can of dry air to clean the air vents.
- Some programs that run at startup can cause overheating. Check in the task manager which applications consume the most power.
- If possible, get a ventilated stand. It allows to raise the computer and it is (in most cases) equipped with a fan.
Noisy fan
The computer fan makes a lot of noise when the computer produces a lot of heat: this triggers the action of the fans to expel the hot air from the computer and to circulate the air. Fan noise can also be caused by a build-up of dust in your computer, which affects its performance.
- Like overheating, make sure the computer is put on a flat and hard surface
- Clean the vents with a dry air canister.
- If one of the components is not powerful enough to run software, it will cause overconsumption and may cause the fans to start up very noisily.
- Avoid putting your computer in a place where fresh air cannot circulate around it (cabinet, drawer, on a carpet...).
